Upload Speed for Two Video Calls: Add Both Devices
Count the devices sharing your home connection, not everyone invited to the meeting. Two laptops sending video need room in both directions, with additional capacity for other activity.
Check my connectionRun between calls. The test uses internet data.
A controlled check for this problem
- Check the call app, quality and format used on each household device. Add upload rates separately from download rates.
- Run the speed test before meetings, with both laptops out of their calls. Record upload and loaded latency, not just download.
- Try a short call on both devices without a speed test running. If one call works but two struggle, pause other transfers and compare again.
A Standard test can use up to about 100 MB. Two tests can use up to about 200 MB; three up to about 300 MB. Check your data allowance and run between important calls.
What the comparison suggests
One call is fine, two repeatedly struggle
Check combined upload demand and shared Wi-Fi conditions before changing plans.
Enough Mbps, but delay climbs under load
Reduce competing traffic and investigate queue management on the existing router.
Only one laptop fails even when alone
Follow the device or app comparison rather than assuming insufficient household capacity.
Two-device Zoom examples
| Each device’s call format | Two devices: upload | Two devices: download |
|---|---|---|
| 720p one-to-one | 2.4 Mbps | 2.4 Mbps |
| 720p group | 5.2 Mbps | 3.6 Mbps |
| 1080p video | 7.6 Mbps | 6.0 Mbps |
These are sums of published per-device rates, not our measured test results. Actual demand adapts; layout, screen sharing and other traffic can change it. Leave additional room rather than treating a result exactly equal to the total as sufficient.
Calculate a mixed pair
This calculation starts no call or transfer and sends no input values to analytics. It does not recommend a fixed plan or diagnose packet loss.
Record your own comparison
